SkyCoach delivers reliable replay for T.L. Hanna after midseason switch from Hudl Sideline
After a season of constant issues, the T.L. Hanna football program in South Carolina knew something had to change. The team had been using Hudl Sideline for in-game replay, but as assistant coach Austin Garrett put it, "it really only worked for us one time all year." That experience prompted a bold midseason switch in 2023—one that paid off immediately.
"We made the move to SkyCoach—I think it was about a year ago, maybe two," Coach Garrett recalled. "It was honestly after a nightmare of a season. Our staff got so frustrated with Hudl that it got to the point where operating it became a daily headache. It was making my job harder than it needed to be."
The solution came from a trusted coaching connection in Georgia at Carrollton High who recommended SkyCoach for its reliability and simplicity. The YellowJackets made the switch midseason, opting for SkyCoach’s two-angle Platinum package. Despite the timing, the transition was seamless.
"We reached out, and y’all helped us set it up. I remember it was all done within a day or two—training, install, everything."
Previously, with Hudl, the problems were constant. "Sometimes we just wouldn’t get the clips. Other times, the range on their system would be off," Garrett explained. "Plus, our stadium setup didn’t help—we’ve got a video broadcasting class at the school and they use wireless cameras for the stream. That always interfered with the Hudl. It was just problem after problem. Their setup just isn’t ideal in some of the bigger stadiums we play in."
Switching systems midseason isn’t always ideal, but the coaching staff knew it was necessary. "We were struggling with making halftime adjustments because we just weren’t getting the info we needed with them," said Garrett. Once the YellowJackets signed up with SkyCoach, those in-game replay problems stopped. Last season, they reached the third round of the playoffs with SkyCoach on their sideline.
Garret added: “I mean, being able to make in-game adjustments is good. I think that’s part of a lot of that because of clips, they come in very fast. It definitely changed the way we were able to adjust mid-game.”
SkyCoach immediately gave them the ability to review drives, correct alignments, and make informed decisions on the fly.
With SkyCoach, the difference was night and day. “It’s just a whole lot better than what we were using. It definitely changed the way we were able to coach mid game. Being able to tag plays, pull up clips instantly, show them to our players right there on the sideline—it’s made in-game adjustments so much more effective. So, it was a great addition from you guys this past season.”
Word is spreading. “We’ve had people ask about it, especially after they’ve seen how unreliable Hudl has been,” said Garrett. “Our head coach Jason Tone and another guy both have Georgia ties, and they were already familiar with SkyCoach because it’s used a lot down there. That’s how the conversation really started for us.”
Now, T.L. Hanna isn’t looking back. The program fully stands behind SkyCoach, praising its reliability, ease of use, and excellent customer support—confident they made the right choice by making the switch.
