Utilizing SkyCoach at Practice
SkyCoach revolutionizes the way coaches and athletes receive and use information during games, allowing for real-time adjustments as well as a learning tool for players. Given coaches dependability on SkyCoach, and our dependability on coaches from a customer perspective, SkyCoach works diligently to put client support first and listen to any and all feedback.
Recently we asked one of our customers, Coach Ted Neal of Fort Smith Northside High School, for feedback on his experience with SkyCoach and how it’s made him and his team more efficient.
Neal, who works as a running backs coach, explained the process for using SkyCoach during practice, in order to film multiple segments on offense and defense.
The setup utilizing SkyCoach for the Northside Grizzlies includes Coach Neal, as well as four high school students, who he teaches the ins and outs from a technological standpoint. He gives the students a schedule before practice which explains which device they will be filming with, which zoom option he wants, which coaches are in the drill, and what to name the segment in SkyCoach. The fourth student waits with a laptop for each segment to finish and uploads those segments in real-time.
“The benefits are TIME and ease of use. It’s much easier for student to upload as they are finished filming a segment instead of pulling up a camera memory card after a whole practice,” he says.
Neal continues, “If the student did it the old school way, she would have to decipher between 150-200 clips and where to break up which ones and write down where she left off. I probably wouldn’t even let her do that process because it’s much harder.”
In addition to having a more efficient and easy process in place with the use of SkyCoach, Neal also highlights an added benefit. “Coaches have families and if I can save an hour after every practice by not uploading film, I’ll do it every time. We are always trying to be the most efficient we can possibly be, so for me, I’ll always choose this process.”
SkyCoach has allowed him to take more off of his plate, and delegate tasks to other students who are trying to learn more about the process. “I have other responsibilities during practice so this allows me to focus in other areas,” says Neal. “Keep in mind these are high school students and usually have zero to very limited knowledge about football before I get them, and they have no problem learning the process.”
He concludes by adding, “What it has done to make gameday’s easier is a whole other conversation!”
